BBC Radio 6 Celebrates the early Giant Step years

We got a nice surprise last Saturday morning when music legend Huey Morgan dedicated 30 minutes of his radio show to the early days of the Giant Step Club in New York. This was part of BBC Radio 6’s “All Day Rave 90s” weekend, and although I wouldn’t call ours a rave, Huey certainly nailed the vibe. He was around most weeks in the early days before his success with the band “The Fun Lovin' Criminals”. In this clip he, along with Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy, recall their memories. Check out the clip below and listen to the full episode here, Giant Step comes up 60 minutes in!

Our latest W Records Release, Presenting “Ádios Amor” by Elsa y Elmar

A few years ago Giant Step conceived and created a record label for W Hotels aptly named W Records. We released some beautiful music by the likes of Amber Mark, Perfume Genius, Roosevelt, Japanese Breakfast and Fifi Rong. Just before the lockdown in 2020 we started working with a very special and talented Colombian artist called Elsa y Elmar. Today we have finally released the first piece of music of our collaboration, a beautifully haunting cover of Christian Nodal’s classic “Ádios Amor”. We are donating our streaming royalties to La Casita de San Ángel in Mexico City, who work to find productive occupation for adults who face a lack of protection due to intellectual disabilities and / or neurological damage. Stream the new track here!

Re-Introducing DONNIE’s
The Colored Section

DONNIE’s The Colored Section was originally released and executive produced by Giant Step CEO Maurice Bernstein in 2002 under Giant Step Records. A true indie effort, the record became a commercial and critical success with 50,000 units sold, accompanying radio play, and strong reviews. Following this success, Motown joined the venture and the album was re-released a year later. Now, in honor of the forthcoming 20th anniversary of its release, The Colored Section will be receiving a brand new digital deluxe edition, to be released on DSPs June 18, 2021 via Motown/UMe. Being reissued as part of the celebrations for Juneteenth, Pride and Black Music Month, the re-issue will include 16 bonus tracks, all streaming for the first time ever. Giant Step Scores Clio Win for W Records

W Records (for W Hotels) was recognized as one of the world’s top campaigns of the year and awarded bronze in Clio Music's “Integrated Campaign” category.

A brand that has always been committed to music, W Hotels tapped Giant Step back in 2017 to begin the roll out of an integrated music platform that ultimately became W Records.

It was truly a team effort and we are tremendously proud of the results and the money raised for such great causes.
